Cockers have a variety of
coat thickness and texture.
A Cocker Spaniel coat is medium to
long and requires a grooming
regiment equal to the type of
coat they have.

A light coat, or field coat,
is the least dense of the Cocker
hair types.  This coat is best for a working, retrieving dog.  It averages
medium to long in length but very fine or thin.  The disadvantages of
this coat, if any, is that it is
not of AKC "show quality".  The
advantages, though, are longer waits
between grooming appointments
and less brushing time.

The medium coat is a long to
full with a small amount of undercoat.
Many prefer this coat as it is very
stylish, but practical.
The disadvantage to this type
of coat is the need to be groomed
and brushed more often.
The advantage is the possibility
of showing the dog and also the
more stylish look.  Grooming should be done every 2 months and brushed every few days.

The heavy coat is long
with a large amount of thick undercoat.  This type of coat is of definite show quality, as well as being
beautiful when good grooming is
maintained.  The disadvantage
is that you should wait no
longer than every month
and a half to 2 months
between grooming; as well as
needing to be brushed daily.
